Brownie & Guide Blogs - Leaders Group

13.07.2011 : What a Summer it's been !

Well! How busy has this past term been?!!
Our new Guide Unit - opened and is growing fast (we'll be full when we go back in September!)
Our Brownie Unit - back up to capacity and we've welcomed another four new Brownies to the fold (and still with a waiting list!)
Our Leadership team has grown - with Gill Birch assisting with Guides and Ruth who is volunteering as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Lizzy has nearly finished her Leadership Qualification!
And, we managed to pack in LOADS in the term programme, right from The Colonel's Review Trip (which was one of the most iconic visits to London I think I have ever made) through to the Guides 'Cook Out' and burning black holes in the Pryors' lawn (apologies again Mr Pryor - thank the Lord Lizzy has promised us you didn't mind!) We've given the Brownies the chance to plan and run their own meeting again - which ended in some cookie and cake culinary delights and a dance routine and 5min spa for the older girls and we've had the Guides compete in their first Girloree (OxYgen as it's now known) and a Divisional Netball tournament.
The Brownies have been on their 'I'm a Brownie, Get Me Out Of Here' camp where they tried Thai delicacy delights (bugs!) and learnt to pioneer and knot tie with the Guides unit holiday planned for September when we return!
Some of our Guides are off to 'proper camp' with 1st Upton and Blewbury Guides in the summer months (my word will they have a shock to the system when they find out they have to cook, clean and do everything for themselves - it's not a Brownie Pack Holiday now girls!) and I'm sure they'll have some wonderful tales to tell once they return from that!
We finished our term off this week with a trip to Didcot Wave for both units and the girls all had some fun time playing around in the waves and on the slide. Even the lifeguard joined in with getting them all to synchronise 'jump' in to the pool and synchronise swim.
We finished the last meeting of the summer off with Brownie Bells and Taps in the water and wished everyone a lovely summer holiday break.
Best get cracking with the planning for Guide camp next. And then there's the term planning for Brownies.......and the Guides......and signing off Lizzy's qualification......
No rest for us Owls then! ;-)
Have a wonderful summer break and we'll see you all back next term for some more 1st East Hagbourne magic.
Toodleloo! X
